History

Women have played a leading role in the growth and development of Salt Spring Island and Mouat's Trading Company ever since Jane Mouat mortgaged her farm in 1907 to purchase the business.

In 1989 the clothing component of Mouat's Trading Co. moved from the upstairs corner of the heritage building where Islanders had been outfitted with overalls, longjohns and gum boots since 1910 - to the newly constructed Harbour Building, where the Clothing Co. resides today.

Mouat's Clothing Co. remains an affiliate of the original Mouat's Trading Co (which in 2009 became Mouat's Home Hardware).

The 4800 sq. foot clothing Co. offers two floors of artfully presented clothing and accessories. From adorable lady bug boots for kids, dressy casual men's wear, to ultra stylish Italian cocktail wear, the Clothing Co. has grown and changed with the times. Proud of our past we look to the future to continue to present quality products of distinction.
